Hi! My name is Angeleck Richardson. I'm known to be kind, patient, and talkative. I became interested in being a caregiver after working a few retail jobs and realizing that I felt very unfilled in a line of work that didn't provide me with the opportunity to connect with others. While working those jobs, my sister who is disabled often called me on my lunch break and chatted with me, telling me all about her day and what happened with her and her friends. I've grown up taking care of my sister, driving her to her activities, going to the park together, watching old school 90's RnB videos (her favorite, she knows every word), and just being her friend. After my dad, I was her secondary caregiver and everything I did with her I enjoyed. Of course there were very difficult days, but it was patience, understanding and space for both of us to be comfortable that allowed situations to work out. That is something I'm proud of.

As a family-oriented individual with a servant's heart. I am passionate about helping other people and making a difference in their lives. I became a home health aide in earlier in 2002. I have a certification for my HomeHealth Aide.Then I became a Certified Nurse Aide in 2006. Also I have my Associate Degree in Healthcare Administration as well also. I have over 23years experience in health care and as a caregiver .In 1993. I became a caregiver because my mother was a caregiver. I started out in my early twenties working at a small retirement home in Delray Beach Florida. I would joke around with the residents, help them with laundry, make their beds, help them during activity time, and just sit down to have conversation time. I learned very quickly that a little laughter, compassion and empathy goes a very long way. Never in a million years did I think I would be in the same type of job 30 years later. Does that tell you something or what? I have had many clients throughout time. The longest lasting ten years. The shortest maybe a couple of weeks to a couple of days. It all depended on the situation, why I was hired and what type of care was needed. I've always had a good relationship with mostly all my clients. Lets face it, you just can't please everyone all the time. Were human, right? Many times just because a job had ended, didn't mean the relationship with the client or family did. I still keep in contact with some. I enjoy taking care of the elderly because I learn something new with each new case. Just when you think you've heard or seen it all. You haven't. Each one has their own story to tell. It's like I come in as the caregiver but at the same time...I'm the blank pages of their open book, where they begin to write their own story through conversations. It's about their likes and dislikes, their care and concerns, their needs and what needs to be done to be sure those needs are met. My greatest achievements have been that of an open book of communication between myself and my client. Most times the ending story is good. Yet, in truth and fact, sometimes its not always a happy ending. There's sadness and disappointment for one reason or another. Yet, as with every story you move on and start a new chapter in a new book knowing you've done your job to the best of your abilities while providing the best possible care to your client.

I have cared for both of my grandmothers, friends, neighbors, and many other clients. I also have worked 15 years in security. So, I have a very protective nature. I have cared for clients with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Psychosis, Schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, Heart Disease, COPD, AFIB, MS, Diabetes with and without insulin, Full assist, standby assist, live in and live out. I am a super friendly, caring, hardworking, problem solver, who loves deeply. I see my clients as family and treat them with the love and respect that I would want for my own loved ones. I got into private care because I saw what my grandma went thru (they nearly killed her) in her short stay at a rehab and vowed to make a difference in her life and others by caring for them, allowing them to stay home and be as independent, safe, and happy as possible. I am the friend, daughter, granddaughter, and helper. I do live-in at $225 per day, or shift work at $20 per hour (preferably 12 to 16 hour shifts). What drew me to become a caregiver was at a young age . Caring for my grandparent at the age of 20 . Patients , time to some one who is disabled in any way can't move as we do ,so taking things at their pace . Caring and understanding is another key to making the patients feel loved and not a person of burden do to their decline in life . My joy in my choice of job is the satisfaction of relief to a client/patient they no longer feel they are a burden or stressed on how they can stay in their home a sign of relief is everything to me and that makes me feel I am doing my job .

I'm very proud of being associated with the Red Cross during Katrina. I was assigned to New Orleans as part of the berevment team but ended up being a government Liason officer determining locations of supplies, gift cards and medical assistance. I had decided working in the mental health field had come to a end after many years. Upon my return from Louisiana a psychiatrist called and asked if I would go and assess a client of his brother. I did, it was decided to have her return home. The executor of the estate asked if I would be her companion. I believe it was then that God put careing for people on my heart. It's important to me to provide quality of life, kindness. I have a out going personality, humor, zest for life. I'm a team player, respond quickly to emergencies and have great communication skills.

I have been in this field for six years, light house cleaning, medication reminders, shopping, doctor's appointments, help with cooking and much more. I have my CPR/ first aid certificate. Work with one other agency they have done a local and state background check. Experience working with and assisting clients with Autism, Alzheimer's and Dementia. I am a certified home health aide.

I really enjoy this field. I love people, and love caring for people and assisting them with their needs. I have been caring for 20 years through volunteer ministry, 8 years as a mother of a medically complex child with severe disabilities, and in working within the geriatric arena . It is extremely fulfilling work for me. I am also a very clean and organized individual, with a good driving record, as I help in those areas as well.
